Talented Minneapolis teachers engage students in developing dance proficiency, deepening cultural awareness and advancing artistic expression. Students study modern dance, ballet, tap, and hip hop while also focusing on dance composition, history and criticism. MPS Arts dance programs seek to have students demonstrate essential dance skills while making connections across the areas of content offered. Dance students’ skills are shared through both choreography and performance.

At the secondary level students enter with varying levels of experience and are placed in classes according to their abilities and experience. Students both perform their own work as well as the work of professional choreographers in performances throughout the year.
